Targeted Approach for Preventing Pulmonary and Extra-pulmonary Traits (TAPPET)
Who can take part?
You may be able to take part if you have a chronic lung condition such as asthma, bronchiectasis, or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).
You may be eligible if you:
- Are an adult
- Have been diagnosed with asthma, bronchiectasis, or COPD
- Have had frequent chest infections or signs of inflammation in the past 12 months
You would not be able to take part if:
- You have a medical condition that would make exercise unsafe
- You have completed pulmonary rehabilitation in the past 12 months
- You are unable to participate in study activities
- The study team feels that participation may not be suitable for you
What is involved?
This study is looking at whether a home-based pulmonary rehabilitation and self-management program can help reduce hospitalisations and improve health outcomes.
Participants will receive either standard care or a home-based rehabilitation program, depending on the study group.
- Study duration: Approximately 12 months
- Clinic visits: Up to 3 visits
What will I need to do?
If you take part, you may be asked to:
- Take part in a home-based pulmonary rehabilitation program over 8 weeks
- Follow a self-management plan for your condition
- Attend up to 3 visits at a hospital or pathology provider
- Provide information about your health, including hospital visits and symptoms
- Take part in assessments, which may include:
- Blood tests
- A brief telephone survey
The study team will monitor your health outcomes over time, including hospitalisations, flare-ups, and overall wellbeing.
